What do you guys use for mattress
For the fuller figure :-)
We have the regulation 4" foam mattress and it is really uncomfortable, any bone that sticks out aches enough through the night to keep us both awake. I was thinking of a 2" medium density underlay but maybe there is something better ?
The beds are not standard size.

Re: What do you guys use for mattress
The mattress on my boat is at least 6 inches /150 mm but the top 2 inches /30 mm are of memory foam - very comfortable generally, but uncomfortably hot once the temp goes above 30-something (Centigrade). I did think of copying someone’s idea of getting a mattress topper from IKEA, who do a range of different types (these toppers can be cut to fit, but repairing the cover is a job for someone handy with a sewing machine).
I invert our mattress in really hot weather - or sleep with the aircon on.
I twice got close to buying a Flexima mattress, but unhelpful responses from agents have put me off; the technology does seem attractive. Do any other forum members have experiences they can share on these?

Re: What do you guys use for mattress
We bought a new king sized pillow top mattress bed, 2 singles zipped down the guts, about a month before our boat appeared for sale.
Thankfully, boat is big enough that the new bed fitted straight in.

Re: What do you guys use for mattress
I thank god daily our previous owner converted the standard (and slightly weird) Amel aft cabin mini-queen + single bed thing into a wall to wall king size bed. It takes 2 standard single mattresses so we got the good stuff, not the marine stuff, at IKEA prices.

Re: What do you guys use for mattress
My boat (port berth) has your standard 45 year old 4" cushions(or what used to be a 4" cushion) topping with a 1.5 " Alps Self Inflating Sleeping Pad
V Berth has a 2" Alps Mountaineering Pad...….

Re: What do you guys use for mattress
I have a latex pillow. It is fairly firm and full of holes to keep it cool. It mustn’t be too difficult to make a mattress in the same way just with a higher density latex. It would then be cooler and more mildew resistant.
The standard green foam (which i have) are heavy, not the best in terms of comfort, and love to attract mildew.

Re: What do you guys use for mattress
Standard 4" foam mattress from Ikea, but with the Ikea laminated timber spring slats underneath.
Double bonus, better yield to pressure, but, more importantly, GREAT ventilation.
Oh yeah, and very, very cheap. (Foam AND slats.)

Re: What do you guys use for mattress
I have a standard 12 inch memory foam queen mattress in the main berth. I made up for the angled section at the head by getting some foam sections made up and putting them in pillow cases. I paid about $200 for the mattress off Amazon and $50 for the foam sections from Foam Factory
In the guest berth we have a 6" memory foam mattress that used to be the topper in the master. We just took it out of the cover and cut it to shape.
I don't understand buying a "special" boat mattress that is 6" thich and 3x the cost just so they cut it. Get a real one and just cut it and redo the cover.

Re: What do you guys use for mattress
Amen, SailorBoy. Sleep is a resource that is not to be compromised. We have the same mattress (Queen memory foam) in the forward cabin as in our home bedroom. We don't even have to get used to a "different" feel.

Re: What do you guys use for mattress
Just as important as the mattress check into the FROLI system, it elevates your mattress and keeps the whole bunk area much fresher and happy.

Re: What do you guys use for mattress
Any recommended custom mattress manufacturers?
I like firm mattresses, like rock, not pillowtop.
