Theft and/or Breakins Around Miami and Miami Beach ?

I've heard that dinghy theft is a little bit of a problem around Miami, but how safe is the anchored mother ship while at anchor?

A friend lead me to believe that robberies on anchored boats is common down there.

The same friend has also told me other far fetched stories like divers getting attached by sharks while scrubbing hulls.

So basically close the hatches and lock her up and you should be fine?

My plan is to arrive firing and then to keep the heads of the locals down with suppressing fire throughout the duration of my stay . The length of my visit will therefore depend on how much ammo I can carry.

The trick when abroad is to fit in with local customs and I feel CF.com has well equipped me to deal with US folks

My biggest fear is getting attached to a shark

If you own a typical inflatable which costs about as much as a car and is far easier to steal, then its a problem everywhere.

Crappy looking Walker Bay, little 2 HP with name if the boat on it, chained to the transom, with a BIG lock.

But my real concern...or at least question as about the safety of the mothership, while left alone at anchor.

we spent the last 2 decs and part of jan there without any issues - just watch where you dock you dink and chain it if you feel uncomfortable - we saw a lot chained but never did ours -
as for onboard break ins -- never heard of one althrough i guess they could be going on -

Anchor at Belle Island South and go North 500 yds under the bridge and tie your dinghy to the police dock, the sign says 20 minutes only but not enforced. You will be walking distance to South Beach with buses to everywhere. Make sure your dinghy is registered and has all the night lights.

If your boat is rigged like you're a newby you might be targeted by tweakers. Most cruisers are left alone because they look a little "salty" and are pretty much prepared.
