That little something that makes life easier
What is that little thing that you can't live without while cruising? The little thing we might add to make our life either easier or more fun. I'm not talking ground tackle or AIS. The little thing. For example, for me it is fans. I really only discovered them about 15 years ago, but they make the boat cooler, less stinky, fewer bugs. I see thermal slow cookers and am intrigued, but I know no one using one. I'm still struggling to decide on cockpit lighting. The best way to make coffee. If you have something you love be brand specific if you can.

A french press coffee maker.
An apartment size refrigerator.
Really comfortable canvas deck chairs.
Lots of hot water for showers.
Cold beer.
Fans. Yes, I agree. Ceiling fans in the cabins and reversing fan the forward hatch.

I second most of TKeithlu's list.
The $15 ceramic knife that deals oh so much better with modern synthetic ropes than any metal blade.

Re: That little something that makes life easier
My mother swore by her pressure-cooker. We enjoy having a corkscrew. Lots of people seem to enjoy bean-bag chairs.

Manual bread dough mixer.
Fully contained environment for mixing dough that completely eliminates the horrific mess of flour and sticky dough around the galley. Just put the ingredients into the bucket and mix.
It is very quick, very thorough, totally mess-free and inexpensive. We even use ours at home.

Re: That little something that makes life easier
I had a rail mounted solar light next to the bbq. Helped a lot. Would last almost all night in a crowded anchorage

Re: That little something that makes life easier
I have found external tents that stop sunlight from beating right into the cabin windows are a great improvement. The kind that stops direct sun but keps the view open - just like canvas stretched over Mediterranean restaurants - keep the view, cut the UV.
30 minutes' work on the sewing machine.

Shade. Be it from Bimini, boom tent or other.
Yes, stern shower.
Fridge!!! Neve had a real fridge on a boat before and it's the single biggest jump from camping to comfort of any other single improvement on the boat.
Music. Most of the time the wind and the waves are all I want but a moderate breeze, watching the sun set and listening to the right tunes is magic.
Hot water is nice.
