My wife is a licensed electrician and followed all codes for the install and we had it inspected/tested by someone from the gas company. We told our insurance rep all about it and that was that. We inspect it regularly and so far, zip problems.

I know its not a boat, but we are seriously thinking of having one installed in our new boat when we get it. It has no pilot light and a 20# tank of LP lasts for several months easily. Expensive? Oh yes. Worth it? To us, yes, as we travel a lot. Its the only LP gas appliance aside from the outside grill. We chucked the gas stove and we use induction and a microwave/convection oven for cooking now.

That PrecisionTemp unit has a sealed forced air burner, so is totally compliant. That is a serious piece of real marine hardware costing $1400, a far cry from the cheap Chinese toys with open burners some people are using.

If you want to heat water with propane, this is the way to do it

We love it! It replaced the leaky troublesome 6 gallon water heater that came originally with our 5th wheel. While we were in there we replaced all the water lines with Pex. Winterizing is a snap.

Re: Tankless water heaters

How do you power it when not on shore power?

In fact it says it needs a 60A breaker and that is at 240v so the load is about 54A for 13Kw. Do you have a shore power feed able to supply that?

It's 13kW! How do you power even WITH shore power? That's like 57 amps of 230V power.

I have a 6.5kW generator AND I can boost another 3kW into that with my charger/inverter, and I STILL couldn't power that. A "good" shore power connection up here is 16 amps at 230v, so about 3.6kW.

I like electric tankless heaters, but I know few boats which could power one.
