It wasn’t our intention but we wound up spending a year in Chaguanas, Trinidad, most of the time
on the hard at Peake’s Yacht Services. We found it to be a very good facility although it was expensive. The cruising community was mostly supportive and active but with occasional bouts of petty ‘disagreements’. Most trades were skilled and some we found to be competitively priced but some of the quotes we received were stratospheric. The marina area felt safe to us but we were warned about venturing into other places on the island, especially at night. The
weather is tropical and hot year round. There are very few beaches and Trinidad doesn’t attract many tourists.
