28 meter power cat vs. 38 ft. sailing cat -

NZ capt. says he lost power; his port bow ran up on our port bow.

Gets better - he is apparently so frickin' rich that he does not need insurance. I guess if his boat sinks, the Cayman Islands Corp. to which the boat is registered will just buy him a new one.

Don't know about damage yet - we will have to have someone check it out for us.

picture is of power cat backing down off of us. hope the link works.

Re: RUN OVER !

Sue and destroy.

The problem with power boats is they have big engines.

A power boat went onto a sailing boat in the Med and killed two sailors. The power guy was going at 30 knots.

Be glad you don't live in Lake County, CA. You could be under arrest for causing the accident. . . .

Link doesn't work for me either. I hope you at least taunted him mercilessly. That's what we do whenever somebody drags the whole ocean into our marina. Doesn't accomplish anything but it makes us all feel better.

Re: RUN OVER !

Shame. He's rich, he pays. Period. Too bad the video didn't work.

Local marina here a few weeks ago, couple drunk boaters on huge boats came into marina and hit 4-5 sailboats in front of another boatowner who popped out of the hatch fast enough to get their attention enough to not hit the Columbia 34 she lives on.

I'm surprised the marina owners let them stay. In fact, I don't think anything was even said to them.

I was tempted to hole their boats that night.

The correct procedure would be to inform law enforcement of people drunk while operating boats. They frown on that.

Insurance will not pay for damages done while operating a vehicle/vessel while drunk.

Surely that can't be true!

Boat #1 hits Boat #2.
Operator of Boat #1 is drunk at the time of the accident.

I cannot imagine an insurance company not paying for damage sustained by boat #2 because the operator/owner/insured of boat #1 that caused the accident was drunk. Damages should be covered by the liability section of the policy held by boat #1.

Any insurance guys on this forum who can explain or clarify?? I know our insurance policy does not state that the liability portion is voided if accident occurs while operator is impaired. Although surely the policy would be canceled after such an accident (rightfully so, IMHO). But boat #2 should collect damages in any case.
