The previous owner renamed our boat without ceremony and 7 letters. It sank shortly thereafter. We raised it and refitted the boat but kept the name because:

1 We did not want to risk another sinking after all the work
2 We were too cheap to change it.

"Antares" is easy to say on the radio. People who have difficult boat names likely did the same disservice to their children. Then there are the powerboaters..... Yikes!

My first boat was a Tanzer 22. It was white with a red stripe. The name on the stern was "Green Dolphin"
It was quickly changed to "Seven Island Suite" (after a Gordon Lightfoot song) I guess maybe someone sucked out an ace on the river on me a few times over the years because of it, but it was still worth it.

This issue was firsted raised when the Elbonian fleet captured the entire Moronian navy in 1523 AD The renamed the captured boats but not having an alphabet they borrowed Greek letters. The Captors and the captivated were sunk a year later. This was attributed to anger by Posiden. (7 letters)

Hmmmmmmmm . . . . . . . . I should have paid more attention in school. Don't recall them. I guess being an aviation major I was more interested in the Royal Albanian Air Force.

I renamed my catamaran without a christening ceremony or splash of champagne on the bows and went off cruising.

Things broke at an alarming rate, the previous owner told me that in 6 weeks of cruising I'd have more things break than he had in 5 years!

When my daughter came on board after these 6 weeks she was given the task of christening the boat and to pour some champagne over the bows (but to leave enough in the bottle for us!) which she did with aplomb . And I told Murphy he'd had his time on board, done enough damage and told him to please leave my boat.

Well, the breakages stopped.

Don't know if it was my daughter's words, my words or the champagne which did the trick - who cares!

Bad luck also to miss-spell the boat's name. Maybe that was why the Britannic sank? ........but of course she was originally to be called "Gigantic"........so not quite a renaming, but

Ahh, but did the Olympic sink? Depends if you buy into the conspiracy theory surrounding the Titanic or not. The Olympic broke her back a year before the Titanic sank and was refused insurance- meaning the company were going to lose a ridiculous amount of money. How come as soon as Titanic was sunk she got insurance again and sailed for many many years?? I love a good conspiracy theory me- especially when one of the propellors they found on the sea floor has the Olympic's ID number stamped into it. Oooooooooh. Sorry, slightly off topic........

I was educated in the Dallas Public School System. That's also bad luck.
