Recommendations wanted for charging gadgets with solar

Cruising with kids means Ipads and Kindles will need to be charged. I blame it on the kids..but really I can't live without the Ipad.

What's a reliable solar charger brand for these types of gadgets?

Too many options out there..

Thanks

Get the backpack type with the built in solar and battery!

You can even drive a long range wifi device like a ubiquity from that battery.

Install cigarette lighter sockets around the yacht, attached to the 12v house power lines. A charger with this kind of plug can be found for any device. Then use standard solar panels to top up your house batteries.

With this kind of hardware buying by brand name doesn't make much sense any more, it's a mature technology. Look for the smallest unit that delivers enough power for the application. I own a laptop that chews 25W when running, with 200W of panels I never have to worry about power. Then again, this is Queensland and you may not get as much sunshine.

Re: Recommendations wanted for charging gadgets with solar

We already have solar power as do most cruising boats... we installed 6 12v USB ports around the boat; Blue Seas has a nice unit that is the same size as cigar lighter... 3 of those and you're golden off the panels you already (should) have...
