Re: Random act of kindness day
One day, when things were tight, I went to the mailbox at the end of my driveway. Inside I found an envelope with my family name on it. Inside was $200 cash. No note. No explanation, and no name. That was over 5 years ago and to this day I have no idea who left it there. I still have the envelope so I can compare the handwriting to any local I meet.
I am pathologically adverse to asking for help. When someone does me a kindness I feel like a failure. I love, however, doing things for others. Makes me feel good. I have tried to put myself in the shoes of the other, and try to acknowledge that my accepting of their help may help them feel better.
I have helped as often as I can. Donate blood every 58 days. (O neg) A little good goes a long way.
Peace

Re: Random act of kindness day
When it is a specific day does it not contradict its randomness?
I just do it randomly without waiting till Sunday.
Now, where is that prop?

Anti fowl ... I`ve been looking for something like that to dissuade the bloody seagulls from crapping on my teak deck ... I also need some Anti-foul for my bottom ... Somehow, I don`t think it would be wise to substitute one for the other.

It should work just fine. As a matter of fact, I'll give you a money back guarantee that you will not get ANY bird poop anywhere below the waterline, and you will not get ANY barnacles on deck.

Re: Random act of kindness day
I dont believe in random acts of kindness. In my world, we try to be nice all the time. Sad thing is that under stress or pressure, I cave into random acts of being a craptard. And in that state of mind, I can be a big one.
I think most people want to do do kind things. I tend not to think about jumping in the water and cleaning someones bottom too much, but I will ask if you need anything if Im going to the store, or I might call in and see one of my patients who lives alone and might want a hello now and then. I carry loose change here in Spain for beggars and street musicians. I might spring for lunch for people who cannot afford the meal they like.... I might buy something that someone needs and not say it was me...
Reason? They need it. It connects me to the real life and I need that.
We live in a crazy world. I distrust as much as the next person. There is no expectation of nice things to happen for me from them... When in a craptard frame of thinking, the world is not a nice place to live. I have to learn to not be a craptard with more effort these days............... and yes, I have had some real nasty things happen to me by people... a small minority. Even if the whole world turned crappy, I think it would make me protect myself but not destroy the essence of being kind when I could.... regardless.
Most people want to be kind... except for those that do not...

I am not so sure I'd clean even my best friend's bottom without them knowing (HAHAHAHAHAH) but I would certainly offer. What goes around --------- etc.

I've always interpreted the "random acts of kindness" differently. I never thought of it as a random day to be kind, but selecting random people to be kind to in some special way. A kindness that is directed to others beyond friends and family often passed on without recognition. A common random act of kindness here is to pay the toll for a particular bridge or toll road for yourself and the next car in line or covering some stranger's extra cost in the grocery if their short at the check out line.

And I assume something like that was the intent of this thread?
BTW, we make the society we live in, and acts of kindness or the lack of it, will determine what kind of community we create.

Didn't that "Pay it forward" kid get killed in the end???
Maybe not the best of analogies

Re: Random act of kindness day
We are out here in Arthur's town on cat Island past little sansalvador, the people here some of the nicest we've met anywhere. We've been shown more warm and hospitality and friendship than I could have ever believed. Some are Canadian transplants, some Americans, and a lot of native cat islanders. We've received similar hospitality in other areas of the Bahamas as well. I can honestly say that if we were in a new town traveling in the US, I really wonder if there is anywhere we would get the same welcome? I blame the media for all their negative crap flinging and paranoia spreading, but in the end we are just as responsible.
