Quarantine Projects?

I would just like to get ideas of what projects could be done without needing lots of things from the stores. This should be a list to help give ideas of things that could be done while we are stuck in harbors or anchorages right now not being able to go much of anywhere. Iíve re oiled wood and polished just about everything I can. ideas or photos of your latest project you have started while under quarantine 🤙🏼

Re: Quarantine Projects?

Service all your winches. If your on the dock service the windlass. Remove and clean the heat exchanger on the engine. Disassemble any blocks that can be clean and re-assemble.

So far you will only need grease, perhaps a seal and or bearing for the windlass that you should have on board anyway.

Re: Quarantine Projects?

Deep clean
Organize your tools and spares
Assemble a preventive maintenance list and actually follow it.
Inspect all the rigging, standing and running.
Change filters

Does buying beer by the keg, instead of by the case count? Less trips and less throw aways.

Re: Quarantine Projects?

I've removed and cleaned my sails, cleaned the grill, oiled the interior wood, cleaned cockpit cushions. I'm about to start building shelving in three of my hanging lockers.

Re: Quarantine Projects?

Any project where all of the needed materials can be ordered before you start working is a good candidate.

My boat is on the hard at the moment, but I've been getting extra stuff done due to having extra free time (and not having to drive to the office for work). Over the last few days I built a proper floor for my anchor locker with overboard drainage and some side panels to create a proper protective chase for an A/C duct and some wiring that run through there. Much better than the original setup of unprotected duct, gravity-mounted piece of plywood for a floor and loosely defined drainage to the bilge.

Now that's what I call "economizing"!

Re: Quarantine Projects?

Just ran wire for the aircon unit, roughly 50 ft. from the bow to the aft lazarette. Thankfully there is a nice little pathway on the port side from the factory, wasn't too difficult. Labeled all wires while i was in there for future access

Re: Quarantine Projects?

I've been taking advantage of working from home. Projects at work have slowed down a little, so less late days. And with no commuting time, I can get to the boat 30+ minutes earlier on days I go down to work on it after work. So lots has been getting done.

Yesterday I got my bow pulpit re-mounted and bolted the new windlass on. Today I'll hook up the wiring to it and load up the new ground tackle. Then I get to install the samson post and plumb the washdown setup and that project will qualify as done. Then it's onto the rest of the normal spring prep (bottom paint, hull wax, new zincs, etc.)
