Re: Port Hardy most recent BC community to evict liveaboards

As the world keeps getting more and more populated the little guys get pushed out to sea. Subsistence living these days is all but gone. Society wants everyone to be a slave to the establishments (pay taxes) so they can control the masses. When you have nowhere to go you have to live by the rule.

That's sad, I hope BC sailors can turn the decision around. And we liveaboards DO pay taxes, just like tenants who rent apartments pay. Its structured into our liveaboard or dock fees.

Liveaboards Do pay taxes and are an important part of the boating community. We're cruisers and we really enjoy the liveaboards in the communities we visit. I just made and posted (today) a video on Vimeo about this. Too many dirt-dwellers think very poorly of the liveaboards w/o knowing them. I thought the CF community might like the video. Here's the link to it-- https://vimeo.com/52324027

Re: Port Hardy most recent BC community to evict liveaboards

"He acknowledged there have been some social issues recently, including fights and one man has been shooting at seagulls and pigeons."

"
The development is part of a movement on the West Coast, where liveaboards are slowly being forced out of urban harbours, because of concerns about pollution, unruly dockside behaviour and unsightly boats."

Much as I love living aboard and I do, there are some boats(and people) who are making it hard to argue the mess and problems caused by some liveaboards. While there are already rules on the books to deal with them, they are usually un-enforced until the situation hits a boiling point and then there is an outright ban.
Sucks for people like me who try to be responsible and would love to live at anchor or a mooring instead of hiding out in a slip and having to pretend I don't live aboard because the safe anchorage is now limited to cruisers only(except for a couple boats that are left alone, never towed or chased out like I would be.
