Re: People who think cruising will be lollipops and unicorns...

People buying the dream and the brochure. I hate seeing people liquidating everything to start cruising and they never had a boat. I give them 50/50 at best. It's no country for Old Men, I say that every day.

This has now turned into a thread about hating the government, hating poor people & hating immigrants. Maybe you guys should start an Alt-Right Cruiser Forum & leave this one to people who want to talk about boats & cruising.

Re: People who think cruising will be lollipops and unicorns...

Hello, a question about spares onboard.
We are buying a lagoon 410, what would be reasonable to spare other than the expected engine filters, belts and a regular set of hand tools and a battery drill.

For the first year or two we will not be onboard for more than maybe 2 to 3 weeks at a time before returning to home port.
Thanks

All water pumps, macerator pumps, toilet parts, definitely several water pump impellers, light bulbs especially navigation, rope, fenders, an extra anchor, trottle linkage repair kit, watermaker spares, fuses and breakers, bungs and an assortment of stainless hose clamps.

That looks like a good start for spares.

Thanks.

I would like to see if in the first year of owning I can get the solar done, cockpit enclosure done, led lights and wind turbine.

Lithium batteries would be the bomb but at 6k each I don't think that's going to happen. Lol

It will turn around again and get back on track, they usually do anyway.

Your going to get a lot of response from mono hull people, we only have one engine so we are real dependent on engine spares so we carry a lot.
However you have an entire spare engine, and in my mind for short trips etc, you don't need the engine spare list we single engine guys do. However the joker valves and other items like that you may, but to some extent having multiple heads, is like that engine, one breaks, use the other one.
However you need I guess twice as many bilge pumps and a few other things common in both hulls, that both have to work, and likely only one generator and maybe other single items like chart plotters etc. Open CPN on a laptop is an excellent back up as is Garmin app or navionics on an Ipad

Yes they have two engines.... B U T as my friend discovered here in Croatia last week on his 45ft charter Cat, things don't go so smoothly when one of your props falls apart and you now find yourself with only one engine and a cat that now prefers to go in circles when trying to dock and anchor. Add some wind to the mix, and you're gunna wanna get that engine fixed sooner than later.

Understood. I'm an engineer and don't like to leave anything to chance. Luckily the current owner is extremely meticulous about his boat. I like to stay on top of preventative maintenance. It's a good thing when all of your equipment is working in good order.

I had to laugh at the prop falling off but I know how that goes from being a previous power boat owner and having my kids practically ripping the out drive off
