I do understand the opinion of putting artwork on a canvas. It's true taste changes. It'll be a huge world map though, detailed and perfectly proportioned (if I don't mess up), which will illustrate our journeys, dream locations, home etc. I'm fine with that being permanent.
Pan I have been selling art supplies for 46 years acrylic will not stick to the gel coat permanently. It will only stick to a porous surface. Even then if soaked in water it may peel off. Not to mention that acrylic when it dries has microscopic holes like swiss cheese. That will leave the possibility for mold growth in high humidity conditions. I know this because I have restore many acrylic paintings over the years. Do the one shot paint or if you want smaller qty. You could use Testors model paints comes in 1 or 3/4 oz jars it is actually made for plastic application which is simular to gel coat.

PS nicely done art work.

Acrylic is quite a soft paint, I'd seal it to help make it more durable.

Re: Painting artwork on interior fiberglass

I once tried to learn to paint (no talent), but did use acrylics, and I remember spraying them with lacquer after they dried.

So, to James Cook, is using the other kind of paint a better solution, or would be spraying them with lacquer do just as well? Thanks in advance.

Re: Painting artwork on interior fiberglass

The lacquer over would help but the acrylics still will not bond to the gel coat. The lacquer will not bond where the acrylic is. The lacquer will not peel but the odds due to expansion and contractions the acrylic will eventually start to flake or peel
