When we bought Heerenleed (Nicholson 48) we intended to buy smaller. But when we saw her we knew that
storage problems would be instantly
solved. Which turned out to be true.
For the moment, we are still confined to the Zeeland waters for week end cruising, and therefore we thought that a 48 footer would be on the large side for a crew of 2 with all the obstacles like bridges and many small locks. In reality it is not a problem. I think you do get used to any size if you give it some time.
Also, we find that we spend many more nights at
anchor to avoid small and crowded
marinas.The
electric anchor winch is the main cause, as
anchoring is so much more relaxed now.
Want a tip for using less
water? Buy a dishwasher. We did and we go 6 more days on a full tank than before!
