Weed whacker plastic line is good for clearing the "pee hole" . . . on the motor, that is. A motor left in storage can get a mud dauber nest plugging the hole.

--gets my vote. Spent 2 hours yesterday pulling apart multi-gang residential switch assembly, which I had installed previous day, to figure out why GFI would not work

My zodiac (260 fast roller) rowed very well. the deep V and underwater ribs plus the rigidity of the airdeck made it a very good boat in the water. Not great on davits as it was almost impossible to hang it on the davits so that it could drain rainfall.

zap--is now WALKER BAY..lol...... gooodluck--evinrude does have a problem with a particular water tube disintigrating-- you may wanna take it apart and look at that particular item..is doable -- my 6 hp had that problem and was fixed by sunset marine of santee/lemon grove-- randy did it..he rocks....

The best thing to do is go out and buy an aftermarket shop manual for your outboard and read it thoroughly.You will gain a much better understanding of how to repair your motor and preventitive maint. to keep it running smooth.These books are well written for the beginner and whatever you learn you can apply to all types of engines.Pass the book along to someone new when you get done.The gift that keeps on giving.Knowledge

Living aboard takes some practice, it gets better I promise!!

Our VERY FIRST DAY living aboard my husband fell off our swim platform into Narragansett Bay in October with our dinghy motor in hand. It did not sink but the salt water did not do it any favors. Thankfully being a bomber two stroke, it still works great as our backup motor!!

I may be able to help. Seems we have the same 1978 2.5 Hp Evinrude. There was a design flaw in the water pump that Evinrude corrected with a repair kit. Without the kit, the engine would run around 10 minutes , then get too hot and shut down. Sound familiar? See if you water pump looks like this:

If not, then you need the repair kit. The parts you need (that Evinrude added) are the cup and the plate. This is a blow up of the repair manual for the outboard that I scanned. Now we called around a lot before finding a dealer that seemed to know exactly what we were talking about, further, this dealer was able to procure the needed parts. I am enclosing the link here also.
