Months 42, 43, 44 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

Month 42
Traveled from Marathon to the Bahamas. Checked in at Bimini and stayed a week waiting for weather to get back out (a week in Bimini is way more time than needed to seethe place). Moved on over to Great Harbor in the Berry’s for a few days then over to West Bay on New Paradise Island. Moving a little fast in the Bahamas to meet up with friends who are working on leaving.

Nothing broke on the boat and boat expenses were new BBQ, some fans, charts. These of course added up to real “not counting” money.

Zero marina costs this month as the week in Bimini charge didn’t hit my credit card yet.

Month’s costs - $2,773.29

Month 43
What a messed-up month! Traveled from West Bay over to the Exumas with a stop in Nassau for a few days to meet up with friends. Spent a couple of weeks anchored off beaches while the Bahamas went further and further into lock down. Tried to wait it out some, but finally was able to tell it wasn’t going to open back up and that the cruisers were getting caught in the squeeze. So headed back to the States and got the last open mooring ball in Vero Beach Fl, where we stayed for a month while sorting out a plan.

Had a seawater flange on the engine crack and got the only spare in the world. But 2 months later it still isn’t replaced, and caulk has been holding.

Used a lot of fuel to get East once we got to the Bahamas and then had to motor to get back due to weather.

Lots of marina expenses this month. The week in Bimini from last month, a few days in Nassau, and a month live aboard mooring ball in Vero. This is 1/3 of the whole month’s costs.

Month’s cost - $3,451.27

Month 44
Nothing like a pandemic lockdown to save money. Spent most of the month on a mooring in Vero Beach Fl doing almost nothing. Then a few days in St Augustine for 2 days to meet friends.

Did get to dine out a few times on the way north as the restaurants opened back up some.

But overall, the virus lockdown resulted in the lowest cost month we have ever had.

Month’s cost - $1,776.41

Spreadsheet attached and it now has a big expense tab that has “costs events”

As always thanks for sharing and glad to see you back posting. Earlier this week I realized I hadn't noticed your posts and was hoping that you were doing well and just enjoying some time away from the internet.

Many thanks Sailorboy - this continues to be the best data on the 'net about cruising costs. Sure, it only applies to you, but so much better than starting with a blank sheet of paper and a full head of hair.....

I look forward to following in your wake in about a year
