Month 54 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

Spent the month in the Bahamas. Been a lot of weather holds, some of which result in no way to spend money, and once that resulted in a marina stay in Nassau to wait out. Of course a stay in Nassau works out to a good provision stop compared to lots of the Bahamas. Nassau BTW was a semi ghost town far as tourists go.

General living - Grocery, beer, supply runs, sundries, clothes, “other” etc. for the month was normal. Even though we were stocked up we did more while waiting in Nassau.

Boat costs were small and were just a spare fuel filter and a brush handle.

Dining out and entertainment costs were fairly small considering the cost of eating out here, even if doing “local”.

Fees were credit card cash back and our 2021 Customs tag.

Communication was cell phones, inReach monthly tracking cost, and a month of WIFI service for Bahamas.

Marina cost was 4 days in a slip at Nassau plus a dinghy landing fee when we were on anchor. There was also a small elect charge while in the slip and 4 days of mandatory water charge.

Medical/dental was just monthly ACA plan payment.

Registration was renewal of our Florida registration of boat and dinghy.

The total expenses were $ 2,390.77. Cost breakdown as follows for planners and hecklers and spreadsheet attached:

General Living - Food, soda, alcohol, clothing, sundries, other - $ 1,006.55
Boat costs - upgrades, repairs, maintenance - $ 52.86
Fuel (diesel, gas, propane) - $ 161.02
Dining and drinking out - $ 313.18
Communication, storage, shipping - $ 266.01
Fees – $ -22.84
Marina - $ 377.36
Electric - $ 6.55
Medical - $ 46.99
Water - $ 35.84
Registration - $ 147.25

Dining out is even more special after you’ve been stuck on the boat for days!

Re: Month 54 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

The last few days have sailed through a lot of lobster pot floats here in Eleuthera Island. So last night we went in and I got the cracked lobster as my support for the local lobster guy. Unlike in the NE Us this is done in a little boat pulling up pots bt hand 1 at a time.

Been living aboard in the Med for the last 4 years and our overall number is pretty close to yours. Splits are a bit diferent but very encouraging, as we do plan to cross the pond and spend a few years exploring the western shore of the Atlantic.

Thanks for the information. We are still working full time but using information such as yours to provide some basis for what to expect once we transition into spending more time on a boat. We are a couple years away.

WOW! $2400/month in the Bahamas. Must be some kind of record.
