Month 50 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

Traveled down from North Florida to Marathon FL in the Keys where we plan to stay till new year.

General living - Grocery, beer, supply runs, sundries, “other” etc. for the month was high. Not sure why, but am sure we enjoyed whatever it was.

Boat costs were low. Most of it was a hatch tent so we could leave one open when there was going to be rain and we didn’t have the big tarp up. Had to replace the engine ignition switch as it was shorting across and the oil pressure alarm would sound.

Dining out and entertainment costs were back into our more normal range with a couple of fun brewery stops and meals out with our fellow boat scum.

Communication was cell phones with internet and data, and an annual fee for our inReach unit.

Marina cost was a few days on a mooring in Vero Beach and a month at Boot Key/Marathon.

Medical/dental was monthly ACA plan premium.

Transportation costs were high and was gas and tolls for the car, plus a $203 1-way car rental to go get our car. There is also a $125 hotel under “travel” here because we went and stayed in a hotel the night a potential hurricane was looking to hit here.

The total expenses were $ 3,878.98. Cost breakdown as follows for planners and hecklers and spreadsheet attached:

General Living - Food, soda, alcohol, clothing, sundries, other - $ 1,755.77
Boat costs - upgrades, repairs, maintenance - $ 166.37
Fuel (diesel, gas, propane) - $ 182.13
Dining and drinking out - $ 591.10
Entertainment - $ 9.99
Communication, storage, shipping - $ 174.56
Fees – $ -26.34
Marina - $ 411.66
Electric - $ 0
Medical - $ 58.70
Transportation and travel - $ 494.45
Gifts - $ 47.99
Water - $ 12.6
Registration - $ 0
Insurance - $ 0

So I realized that the original was a lot more more than my credit card balance and went and added up stuff again and above are the corrections and a new spreadsheet is attached.

Good job, that is well below your average monthly expenditures. Noticed you didn't have much boat maintenance expenses last month, which is obviously a big add in to the monthly expenses when needed.

As discussed previously, I know you don't like changing the denominator in cell P104 from "12", but it is an erroneous calculation until you get all 12 months in the sheet.

Anyway, thanks for sharing.

I figure few look at the spreadsheet and once they do and download it they can do anything they want with it.

Looks like you had a very good fun-to-suck ratio last month!

I think my wife uses the fun to suck ratio as well to justify where so much of our surplus money goes.
What is the $12.60 for water?
Cheers

I always like to see how we compare. Are on a mooring at Marathon City Marina? I miss that crowd.

Cheers, RickG

Yes, but the virus has the normal cruiser events shutdown

Good thing all the Happy Hour places are operating as normal

There are 226 mooring. Between those, the marinas, and abchor outs i bet there are 500+ boats in the general area.

Currently i would say the place is 70-80% full and fully fast. Moorings are normally full by beginning of Dec

Hi SB, do you happen to know how full the mooring field typically is in March and April? I'm on a 37' boat.

Thanks,
Dirk
