Month 39 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

Sitting here in Boot Key Marathon FL with my fellow boat scum people watching snow and ice going on up north on my cell phone. My wife is still staying up in Jacksonville with daughter doing PT etc. and we think we will be able to move on beginning of Feb.

Did grocery, beer and supply runs boat wise as normal. But there was Thanksgiving and supplies at 2 locations. I think this month had more stuff in the general category other than food than normal.

Boat costs were kind of low. But considering all I did was replace a couple of head hoses and some real small “stuff” it still added up to reasonable money. I have a theory that boat costs for most cruisers/boat owners is more than they think because they don’t note all the $5-15 costs each month.

Fuel was propane refill and gas for the dinghy and Honda.

Dining was pretty low (record low by $0.82). Don’t like eating out by myself and haven’t fallen so far down the cruiser ladder to sit in a bar drinking yet. So, it mostly is happy hour get togethers after some other cruiser thing like dominos.

Entertainment includes going to a movie and an app cost.

Communication was our cell phone plan plus InReach charges for the trip down from Mississippi last month.

Marina costs were a month’s mooring in Marathon/Boot Key.

Medical of course are doctor and PT visits and copays for wife’s shoulder. Probably should have included around $75 of the transportation costs as medical as they were just Uber trip to go to PT.

Transportation and travel costs were a rental car/gas for Thanksgiving week and Uber trips for PT/doctor visits.

It is almost Christmas and we still buy gifts.

The total expenses were $ 4,065.57. Cost breakdown as follows for planners and hecklers:

Food, soda, alcohol, clothing, sundries - $ 1513.46
Boat upgrades, repairs, maintenance - $ 336.51
Fuel (diesel, gas, propane) - $ 53.69
Dining and drinking out - $ 280.03
Entertainment - $ 19.35
Communication, storage, shipping - $ 126.73
Fees – $ -70.92
Marina - $ 348.30
Electric - $ 0
Medical - $ 145.85
Transportation and travel - $ 475.41
Gifts - $ 820.16
Water - $ 10
Registration - $ 0
Insurance - $ 0

We really enjoyed Boot Key. Bet it's fun during the cooler months. Thanks for posting.

As usual, a very thorough and much appreciated expense report.

I'll agree that many do not include $5-15 range expenses which does add up.
