Re: Month 37 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat
Hi Mate, Lurker/early stage planner for the life and I really appreciate your posts as it gives us planners (sometimes called dreamers) real time figures to go by when planning for how much cash we will need.
Cheers, much appreciated.

Re: Month 37 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat
SailorBoy1, i voted and want you to know how much i continue to appreciate your posts!
i think that when folks first read your posts, they note (and tend to comment on) the differences between you lifestyle choices and their own. however, most can hone into the important stuff, the stuff cruisers have (or will have - if they are in the planning stage) in common.
All this to say, your posts are very, very, very much appreciated!
THANK YOU!

I voted yes. But I'm sure that people will still heckle you and call you an ass anyway.
However the info remains valuable even for others who choose not to do it YOUR way, or agree with YOUR choices. They can still see the relevant costs and decide where to make savings based on THEIR choices.
So for putting up with all of that each month here is a big

I would vote no but can't - as I leaned many years ago one spot on a paper does not make a graph - it is over time that counts. That is why we do ours by year - some months we spend very little and some way too much - but looking at it over time averages it out a bit.
maybe quarterly would help folks more - just my opinion

I voted Yes as I think the information is valuable even in its month-to-month form although composites over time, generating averages in each expense category, per quarter and/or per year, can also be useful for overall budgeting. The fact is, however, that where folks' income (social security benefits, pension income etc), or savings draws are incremental (month to month et al), seeing what monthly expenditures are/can be given the exigencies of daily living aboard, and unexpected events, gives one a better sense of what resources one needs on hand at all times to reasonably comfortably undertake the lifestyle. Even if one's lifestyle is rather different that SB's, less or more costly, the IMO information is useful as a guide and I appreciate his efforts to share.
FWIW...

I voted Yes. Please keep 'em coming. I salute you for your (sometimes strained, sometimes amused) patience with the hecklers, sir. Your monthly information helps us as we gear up to cast off and follow in your wake.
Sorry to hear about your wife's accident. Hope she heals quickly. Probably a little damage to her pride, as well.
Sounds like you already have competent crew for the jump to Marathon.

This month's thread has been very positive because of the poll. But in a way I'm missing the "battle" part of it some and will have fire up some other thread.
