Bless my vulgar palate! All the coffee is good to me, as well as all the wine. 'makes me the cheap date! Take me out to eat at the 7-11 store or the $1 menu at MacDonald's.

Those numbers are CRAZY!! makes me glad to be Canadian. sure my wait times are a bit longer, but my cost for healthcare (visible out of my pocket costs) $0 Zero dollars of after tax income. You really need to embrace socialized medicine! No way should you be going broke trying to pay for health care. Its a fundamental human right!

So basically between us, we all spend money on different things and enjoy it...

Im wondering what my monthly figures would be if I was cruising and what would the breakdown be?

Interesting.

Or you could be like millions of Americans and pay for your healthcare with a couple years of service in the military or coast guard. Probably not the best but it is something you get for free that you earn.

That's one case. Another Obamacare case is as follows:

$383.00/ month $1,000 deductible. No deductible for the following :MRI's $50.00 co-pay, specialist, $50.00 copay, prescriptions $20.00 copay, preventive medicine co-pay only. $5,000 out of pocket max.....for 2016

This year $360.00/month and slightly higher co-pays.

Yeah, but you would have been in the military for 20 years at least and it will take you at least 20 more to learn how to be a civilian.

The point is you are going to pay one way or another.

I've hired guys that have done as much as 10 years (navy) but still get out early rather than being reassigned to a ship again for months at a time leaving wives and children at home

Sorry, I'm a crappy writer.

I didn't mean you personally, I meant the idea you had of doing the military thing just to get medical care.

I am sorry you had to be in the navy though.

Re: Month 3 Expenses & Costs of Cruising

My wife did 10 years and I did 11 years in the Navy. We did it for lots of reasons, none of which was public acceptance or support because there wasn't any of that for the people in the military who put themselves in harms way back then.

Yeah, but you were in the navy safely on a ship out at sea

I'm thinking 6 years in the marines easily equals 11 years navy.

So tell us since you can pass judgement, how many years of service did you give?

HaHa, no not really.

I'm thinking if sailorboy reads the above posts between you and I, he will realize I was not at a grunt base (Lejeune) but at an air base which is why I could run the ICW to Cape Lookout back in the day and round Emerald Island coming back in Bogue inlet near Swansboro as a 20 year old. (on my 17' boat with 4 stroke Homelite 55 hp engine!)

Me and the old lady actually went to the movies on Harker Island one time!

Then he might guess why I got to sail and race sailboats in many locations.

When I got back up here, I'd "fly" over my intended sailing destinations before I sailed there just to get perspective. I also learned the city by "flying" over it. It doesn't take that long with twin 5,000 hp engines.
