No, we have considered doing one just for amusement but haven't taken the time to look into it. Going to the Bahamas next month but we don't really make too detailed of schedule/plans.

Meanwhile for all you boaters up in the nice snowy North, we are heading to the nice and free beach for the day to make sand snowmen

Lol. I picked up my boat in GCS and accidently wrapped a line in the prop. At the time I was reading a book series on the Nile. I dived to cut the line and every time I bumped my leg against something I waited for the following alligator attack.

So costs from me will continue to be reported in the month they were paid for (things I used cash on) or show up on my credit card statement.
Gotcha, makes sense and clears the method up in my mind.

Thanks!

Where do you get health insurance for $22 a month? Mine cost me over $1200 and that's for the cheapest Obama care. I use to pay a lot less before he got the government involved, but never $22 per month.

And where are you that it is costing 1200 a month for 3 people?!

And is this "cheapest" full coverage or catastrophic only?

Not the same bay, not the same island, not the same country.

Luckily thats easy in the Carib!!

Re: Month 3 Expenses & Costs of Cruising

We have been full live-aboard on our 40' cat for 4 years now.
Spending summers in the Chesapeake and oct-may in FL Keys and/or Bahamas.
Every penny spent goes in a spreadsheet under 5 categories:
- Docking/Mooring/pumpouts.
- Fuel.
- Maintenance: yearly haul out & bottom sand/paint, engine parts & maint, lines, insurance, sail repair...
- Upgrades: Charts, Delorme monthly fee, wind generator, whisker poles, new Batts, anchor, ...
- non-boat (groceries, booze/wine, car rentals, airplane tickets, eat/drink out, snacks, party supplies, ...)

It comes out monthly to $2985 for everything ($1110 of that for non-boat expenses).

Disclaimers:
- we cook/grill mostly on the boat and rather anchor out in quiet bays.
- Except for sail and fiberglass repair, I do all the work.
- clothing, medical & grooming on personal budget.

I was wondering the same thing. My company pays for mine and I still pay $50 a month.

The ring of truth in those numbers.

Re: Month 3 Expenses & Costs of Cruising

Sea Dreaming. That was the cheapest full coverage. $5000 deductible per person. I was laid off, thanks again Obama and my COBRA was over $3700 per month. Almost $45,000 per year.

PS: didn't mean to get off topic, just wondering where you get $22/month health insurance.

Re: Month 3 Expenses & Costs of Cruising

Is this what cruising is about, worrying over every dollar spent, health Insurance etc?

Maybe working and doing a bit of coastal cruising is better?

What does one do while anchored all day after being on the water after a few months anyway?

I always enjoyed the section in the National Geographic Magazine where Robin Lee Graham during his 5 year circumnav would park the boat for a while, get a job, and learn about the people and the area he was presently in.

This may have been pushed by NG, but it was a very good idea.

I especially like it when he and Patti explored Africa (I believe it was from Cape Town) on their little rented motorbike
