Thank you to those sharing your expenses. Truly a YMMV thing, but it's helpful (certainly for perspective) and I am grateful for the information.

Not my business, but, on the behalf of your health, and stomach, do consider that 50% of your budget is for food, soda, sundries (edibles?) and eating out...

I was impressed , sorry me, no jokes :-)

Re: Month 3 Expenses & Costs of Cruising

You will find as you head into the Bahamas your costs will go down a lot. Ours did. Not knowing your overall cruising plans we made a list of all the things we thought the boat needed and after 2 Bahamas trips we had a lot of upgrades that destroyed our budget one year.
But our goal when we started was getting to Bahamas and back without sinking the boat.

So when are you headed over this way -- a bit of humor - but keep on keeping on. It will be interesting to see your year end amount as it begins to even things out a bit. You are spending about what we did and are.

As for Kenomac yea there are those of us out here doing it and those who talk or make excuses. We could have had all the excuses we wanted but we put on our big boy pants and headed out and wow what an experience. I would pay to do - on the other hand I guess I am and it is way worth it.

I'm on dry land for six months of the year by choice, not because of financial necessity. Then on the boat in the Med for the other six months for lifestyle. But I do make the most of my time in both places... work hard, then play hard with no money worries.

Me thinks you misunderstood my lighthearted posts, I respect what Sailorboy has accomplished.

As Chuck says, as soon as you are in the Bahamas the budget plummets...

Guess why...

Stay in a marina, or, stay at anchor here:

Re: Month 3 Expenses & Costs of Cruising

Appreciate all the pertinent info there, sailorboy1. Is there any particular spot(ie. portal, website, blog, etc) where you're noting all the expenses week after week? We've been toying with the idea for some time now and truly appreciate your time and effort in reconciling the expenses associated with this type of lifestyle. I'm a "go" for the whole thing but the Admiral needs more convincing so your posts are very interesting.

"OTOH, it took a fair amount of acid to clean the brown stain off the water line from the month of coming down the ICW"

Have you thought about trying out any of the different hull coatings? Your trip might just make for a really good promotional jag . . . say Poli-Glow versus wax, etc.?

Re: Month 3 Expenses & Costs of Cruising

Only doing the monthly numbers, I take enough grief for this to consider a weekly thing.

There are 2 of us on the boat, wife and myself.
