At least you don't have to worry about shoes.

Been wearing the same pair of broken sandals for over a month. Wore my tennis shoes once instead and it really upset my toes!!!!

In 2 weeks it's going to be 2 years since I've worn long pants!!! Funny that is was in Beaufort SC, which is when I'm currently at and it's cold here!

It's a little chilly here but I'm in shorts and crocs. Not sure if I even have any long pants and real shoes.

Boat costs were low. All I bought was a bag of plastic zip ties and a subscription to Practical Sailor because I wanted to look up something (I’m thinking after that this was a waste on money and maybe I should have called it entertainment instead of a boat related cost).

Marina costs were for some moorings along the way, 3 days in a marina during TS Michael, and couple of dinghy dock fees.

Did grocery, beer and supply runs as normal. Dined out less than normal despite our attempts and wants.

The total expenses were $ 2,254.85. Cost breakdown as follows for planners and hecklers:

Food, soda, alcohol, clothing, sundries - $ 894.71
Boat upgrades, repairs, maintenance - $ 39
Fuel (diesel, gas, propane) - $ 304.26
Dining out - $ 496.39
Entertainment - $ 57.35
Communication, storage, shipping - $ 99.22
Fees – $ -32.14
Marina - $ 335.85
Electric - $ 18
Medical - $ 20.19
Transportation - $ 22.02

I'm a bit slow. Is the $2,319.13 for the last month alone or is it $386.52 a month for six months?

2319 for 25 months, where did you get 6 months from

That’s cost for the 25th month, as in a single month

Come on now. That sentence is "Under budget this month again and that makes 6 months in a row!"

How can you read that and ask whether the spent number was a total for 6 months? Oh well I answered your question anyway and hope it was of some use.

Thanks for this. Just started following...

Curious; were the moorings and marina days out of necessity because there was no place to anchor, or by choice? And, how much typically are the dinghy dock fees and how often do you need to use them?

Cheers

We've lived aboard for 4 years now in the Med and are heading to the Caribbean and East coast next year, just trying to get the lay of the land so to speak.

Re: Month 25 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

I would guess the answer is that the moorings and slips were a choice. Even during the tropical storm we could have found a place to anchor. The 2 dinghy fees we paid when at anchor were $12 & $5. In the past 2 years I've only paid dinghy fees twice and they were at the same stop. The $12 got me the use at a marina that allowed access to showers and laundry, the other was across from that that allowed access to the city and everything that it had.

It would be a positive cash flow of $1023.47/mo into our account even after the other expenses. If we did it long enough we would be rich.

But it wouldn't really be like living , it would just be existing

Re: Month 25 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

For those interested to compare, I published my own two years cruising cost data. From Dublin to Darwin, 2/3 around the world, single handed, mono hull (22 feet):

Re: Month 25 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

Thank you for sharing. I am wanting to retire cruising. Would it be possible to share a spreadsheet of the entire 25 months? I'm not wanting to pry, it would give me a good idea of what to expect.
