Is that insurance the annual rate? I heard it is going up because of the hurricanes but curious what your total for the year would be?

We paid around the same in the Med but after we crossed over and entered the hurricane belt our rates really went up. Are you effected by the latitudes or do you have any restrictions on the areas you are cruising in??

It's kind of funny how insurance companies work. Last year I added the Bahamas to my policy (had to be above Cumberland Island Ga between 7/1-10/31) and that added 20% to the policy. This year I told them I didn't need the Bahamas coverage and in the end my policy went down $80 and I still have the Bahamas (but not the T&Cs) and now don't have to be north of Cumberland Island Ga at all. In other words I can be in Florida or the Gulf for the hurricane season if I want.

My theory is that they just weren't willing to give up on the policy amount so basically gave me more flexible coverage for a few dollars less

What I have learned is the budget is better without a boat. Other things, perhaps not. To paraphrase the oft quoted WC Fields epithath, all in all, I'd rather have a boat.

Thank you again Sailorboy1. Valuable information.

Good news for me personally is that I have a bit of Stock ...so my income and net worth have gone UP considerably in the last year.
( Thank you Mr. Trump )

That’s great isn’t it (because I remember losing half). But I doubt Trump had anything to do with as it’s been going for 9 years (I’ve doomed this thread now haven’t I)

Re: Month 16 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

Thank you very much for this very informative information. Even though some things are different for me, I (and I am sure others too) find it very helpful. It is a good starting point from which I can start my budget. I am still fitting out but it's nice to see some real world numbers.
Thanks again.

This thread must have reached it’s apex. Even the bashers have given up trying to tell me how I’m doing it all wrong.

Good news for us, too. But as SailorBoy said, it has nothing to do with Trump.

SailorBoy, enjoy your steak!

Hey it’s an internet forum. I want to argue and piss and moan like every other poster, otherwise where’s the fun/sport of it?

Re: Month 16 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat

My insurance is with New Hampshire too. Higher agreed value, older boat, proportionately higher premium. But fair. I’m told it is excellent coverage by both my agent and a friend who is a surveyor. I had an appalling claim this fall. Just got the check. No fuss. I hope they continue coverage!

And thanks for the direct and unflinching look at the budget.
It helps me for sure. I read it in an open and non-judgemental way. When I read the details I see expenses I think are too high and others that are too low.
That means it is real.
Thanks again.
