I know, I'm a little "slow"!
Would help if I got a book on how to boat cruise and had someone to read it to me?

I'll quickly write a book and you can sit on my knee and we can read it aloud together. With pictures.

Re: Month 10 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat
You seem quite careful with money, but you can't beat me. I not only re fueled in Bermuda for free, but I was also able to sell fuel cheaper than BP could sell it. It did attract some attention, as everyone wondered how I was doing this. (I didn't put this in my log book) but I was getting my spares at the dump in Bermuda (great place the locals call it sears) its right next to the airport, anyway, I thought I would try a fuel tank, see if there was anything in it, I took two gallons out of it, then plugged it, with a bit of wood (i had burst the bottom of the tanks) took the fuel back put it in my boat, back next day, when I filled my boat, I had nothing to do with the fuel but sell it
When I was leaving Bermuda i told them where I got the fuel. I was good at it though, a crashed taxi, that has a lot of diesel, a sign written van lot of diesel, any commercial, a private diesel car forget it, and I wouldn't risk taking the petrol.
I was doing them a favour, because all those vehicles are becoming landfill, they are all full of fuel, oil, brake fluid, gear oil, coolant, and eventually, it will all leak into that beautiful blue sea, as a slow oil slick.

Perhaps you could save some money if you had the wife tow the cart?

The raw water strainer for the generator clogged up and that took out the impeller and exhaust hose. Since it is so hot we needed that generator for air conditioning and next day shipped the parts.
We did a lot of cheap to free sightseeing, which probably involved a meal out during it. We also got a car and went sightseeing some staying in motels etc. Since I know everyone reads these with the “I can do it for less” I have put all the car traveling/motel type sightseeing into a separate category.
Entertainment expenses were for some Kindle books, movies, mini golf and whatever if it didn’t involve a rental car to go to (if it was a local bus ride to get to it, it is in entertainment).
The total was $ 3,525.35, which breaks down as follows:
Food, soda, alcohol, clothing, sundries - $ 879.87
Boat upgrades, repairs, maintenance - $ 213.61
Fuel (diesel, gas, propane) - $ 229.35 (got to feed that generator)
Dining out - $ 743.57
Entertainment - $ 103.43
Sightseeing - $ 760.49
Communication, storage, shipping - $ 233.78
Bank Fees – ($ 42.04)
Marina - $ 329.70
Medical - $ 22.27
Transportation - $ 51.32

Learned the hard way when we first got there and let the boat sit for a couple months. Went to go use it and couldn't make better than about 2-1/2 knots under power at rpms that would normally get me 6 knots.

I know I've gone on about this before, can you tell me when and how often you anti fouled and with what product? It seams a lot of dosh to pay a diver every month.

I'm surprised that you have not been castigated your bourgeois lifestyle. Proclaiming it can be done for only $800 is not enough.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say here, but I assume it has something to do with my post. I am in no way "castigating" Don. I think he's doing things well, and in style. Someone (was it you?) made a comment about the reality of costs. I simply reported my reality.

Btw for what it's worth I feel that except for a few extra meals out that my wife and I are cruising pretty frugally.

It's that $800 is at the extreme low end and $3500 is pretty high. Most people can do it for less and I don't envy the people who spend the big bucks. "Castigating" was supposed to be humorous.

Month 10 Expenses of Cruising and Living on the Boat
I think quite a few spend way more than $3,500.
It truly does depend, how much does a house cost? To some is $10,000, some it's 1,000,000, or much more.
Both are houses that you can raise a family in.
Although I'm of the opinion that due to costs of the boat that $800 is not long term sustainable with the average cruising boat.
Plus I talk to many about how much does it cost, and I get answers that don't think about the engine overhaul they did a couple of years ago, or Insurence, or bottom jobs etc. Just how much they spend on a monthly basis, without a set aside. Some handle that by going to work to pay for those big expenses as they happen or maybe dig into savings etc.
