Minimum Size for Liveaboard

Any ideas of a minimum size boat for live a board. Looking at motor more than sailing and quite like the sealine s24. Would this be big enough for one person and his dog in the med ?

Only you can answer that question. What is big enough for one person is extremely small for another.

I have met 2 couples living on a 27' sailboat that were happy with the room and I have seen one couple that thought 42' was too small.

no problem Clark and welcome to the CF. there is a chap here living on a 12 foot boat and sleeping in his Nova car during some gales. he claims to save more than i make living that way but i have serious doubts as to his logic. fairwinds and godspeed.

My guess is to ensure the boat is big enough for what you want out of it, seaworthy, big enough tanks if you want to do any traveling in it etc.
How big is the dog, and how will it react to a small space?

He's a husky and we won't be doing much sailing. I'm planning on buying a berth in a marina and using it as a cheap home in the sun.

if all you desire is a cheap home in the sun you should consider an RV trailer rental. met a guy paying 185 month in st. augustine ,florida for a 35foot trailer and lot last year. right on the beach. fairwinds and godspeed.

he has a shower, unlimited fresh water and beach right at his doorstep there without any maintenance hassles of ownership. sometimes that 10k boat becomes a work-project you dont want later.

I think sugarbaby was referring to a caravan for $10K but I do believe you could find a decent older 24' motor boat for that in the US. Don't know about motorboat prices on your side of the pond.

Yes, one boat, two couples from Germany. They had sailed across the Atlantic together. I met them in Port au Prince about 6 months into their cruise.

I assumed they were all very good friends.

31yo w/ husky-esque dog on a 27 footer (most of the year). At least part of it depends on how nimble you are. And also if you are planning on using the boat as a floating condo or more as a traveling kitchen/bedroom from which the rest of the world is your home.

Standing headroom is a "luxury" that I wouldn't want to do w/o. If you are near 6' and want standing headroom, you will have to be more selective while looking under 30'.

I agree that an RV would certainly be less hassle if you're not planning on sailing. That way you can still be mobile, too.

The volume is the limit. You want a beamy and tall boat. Preferably a power boat, if she is to be "small" (short).
