Miami - Biscayne Bay

Hello all. I've lived in Miami Beach for 1 1/2 years working to build a business and it's going slow. I have a 31 ft sailboat in North Florida and every day I see the sailboats in Biscayne Bay and it's got me thinking.

Does anyone know the ropes for living on the hook in Biscayne Bay?

Give them a call at Dinner Key Marina for a monthly rate in their mooring field. Even if you stay only a month, it will give you plenty of time to get "the lay of the land" or sea. In that way you will be well informed as to any next steps you may want to take.

Re: Miami - Biscayne Bay

How about bay approaches from sea. I have a high mast, so bridges are a no go.

I'm thinking Biscayne channel by Coral shoal is the best entrance from the north.

The port is going to be busy, and i'm a little leery about the Lummus cut, and the Rickenbacker Causeway bridge.

There are hundreds of anchorages, and several State Parks in Biscayne Bay. It looks pretty protected, and lots of sand, so I'm not worried once I get in.

A severe marina shortage right now is the only downside.
