I keep one pair of socks on the boat, and it'd be a task to find them. I refuse to sleep in clothes, and wouldn't sleep with socks and gloves and a headpiece on any night, never mind a hot humid night.

I was referring to passages and coming off watch. With 2 or 3 people can’t wash every time. I’ve used both clothes (note, very light weight Merino base layers - they do not trap heat) and sacrificial sheet and the sheet is more convenient but the clothes feel less clammy after a few days.

Fruit of the loom tighty whiteys except not too tight, while working. Nekkid or at least Porky Pig mode when relaxing alone or with the GF. Works for me. I hate boxers. Worse than just going commando, if you ask me.

Ok, I don't know if this has been asked before.

So what is the best underwear to buy as a live aboard in the Tropics 30-33°C

My 100% cotton M&S boxer shorts are wringing wet by the end of the day and bunched up in really uncomfortably places.

The tight briefs don't bunch but they do cut in after a day in the engineroom.

Is there a more flexible material and style perhaps sportier design that keeps everything in its place!
My money for men' boxer briefs has been on Columbia 'diamond mesh' type this past year. Light to wear, fast to dry, easy to wash, not expensive 2 pair for $13 plus tax. Go get you some of these!

+ 1 on these for me too, if I'm in and out of the cabin dockside, otherwise I'm wearing my Columbia diamond mesh in the hot weather.

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

New (not used) military surplus hot weather boxers.

In a pinch Walmart has Hanes poly boxers very light and thin. And inexpensive.

I’m an Outdoor Research Pro and the above two are all I wear if I wear any at all. I’ve spent seven straight days living in the jungle wearing the same boxers without a problem. So either of the above two should be satisfactory.

If you want to spend money see what Patagonia offers. Skip REI and North Face and the other faux millennial rubbish.

Get quick dry shorts. You may have to tear the webbing out of them don’t wear that web crap it’s just abrasive.

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

I always hated underwear... an extra layer bunching up uncomfortably, an elastic band digging in, more to fiddle with in the bathroom, etc. I quit wearing them in my early teens and never looked back. I keep a few pair for when a guest in someone else's home, etc, where embarrassing situations could happen. I've never found it a problem in any way, or to require more laundry.... If you have problems with skid marks or other stains, perhaps there are other issues one needs to work on..... At 63, I've been out of diapers for a long time..... though they may not be that far in the future ;-) .... hopefully I'll die young. Thermal underwear are the only ones that have served me in at all in the past half century+
Not being posessed of a "BSD" (big swinging........), and a pair of tennis balls in a sack, I can't speak for others.

Go "commando" and don't apologize... Our ancestors didn't have "fruit of the loom"... they had nothing, or perhaps a codpiece.

Underwear are a recent innovation and often a torture device... Imagine those poor girls walking around with a string in a very uncomfortable place just to look "sexy"!!

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

I wear these for sailing, working on the boat, and many other things that involve a lot of sweating, including sitting at the helm.

They are long distance riding shorts, or marketed as such. Never get monkey butt again. No powders to mess with. You can hop in the shower with them, wring them and hang them. I can go weeks with 2 or 3. Not exactly cheap but worth every penny.
Don't buy them too small. Use a tape measure.

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

Commando here with Royal Robbins quick-dry shorts. No chafing with those shorts and the short easily last a week in the tropics. Back in the cold lands, drawers under jeans are key because of canvas chafe. Another reason to avoid winter.

Cheers, RickG

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

All these super fabrics cost big bucks. Just go up to Target and buy a few pair of Hanes men's boxers. Give them a try. They are 75% cotton and the rest, polyester. Let the boy's run free.

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

I've gone over to these Adidas climalite boxer briefs for normal shore life. Sounds like what you were looking for. I think on the boat I moreso just go commando with boardshorts, not the ones with a liner, cause I tend to be in and out of the water pretty often.

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

The only problem those of us that don't go commando have with those that do is inadvertent exposure

please at least net your package if you're going to be sitting across from me in a restaurant (well anywhere actually)

Well, you have a point about inadvertent exposure. Everytime that has happened to me, I’d end up spending hours signing autographs and doing interviews. It’s flattering and all but it gets to be tiresome after a while.

Re: Men's Underwear Confessional!

I have used these for the past few years. Sounds like you are a noob to the non-tighty whitey life. Welcome

$19 buck in the US on amazon. I buy mine at Kohl's for the same price. Share
