Re: men looking for new direction

While I like the idea, heres a couple concerns to think about.

Out of all the people we have met in our lives, only a small number become close friends. Out of those close friends, an even smaller number are people you would want to get into a major financial agreement with.

A boat doesnt change societal realities, just location.

What you say is true Eoghan...I am some kind of a dreamer...what kind of a name is Eoghan?...I have never heard that...well I found this Shannon 28 that I really like and can get for $15,000 but I would need help with her because my sailing skills are from my childhood and I have been living and working in Washington DC...I grew up on South River in Annapolis, Maryland with sailors...but it's real different there now...this was the 50's...now there's lots of people...boats...money

Easy enough to put a Shannon 28 into a slip at Holiday Point Marina (for example) and sail from Selby Bay almost directly into the Chesapeake.

I don't know any background from prior to your original post in this thread, but it sounds like this could be a "just do it" solution.

I agree with Ranger, buy the boat, preferably paid in full to reduce the stress of financing the boat.

Than start inviting other sailors, or aspiring sailors to join you. You will likely find some good sailing buddies (along with some you wont get along with), and without the added complication of co-owning a boat things will be simplerer and more stress free.

Eoghan is Irish (Gaelic) for Owen, Iain, and Ewen. My real name is Owen.

Happy sailing!

New Direction. Now there's a great name for a boat.

Aloha red_marine. I'm just getting out to sea for my first time. I'm planning a sailing cruise here in the Hawaiian Islands to earn some ASA certs (studying the book material now). I'm looking to eventually buy my own boat, but right now I'm looking to be crew so I can sail and learn.

'New Direction' might sound like 'Nude Erection' on the VHF.
Whether that's a good thing or not, I don't know.
