Memory Foam

I am thinking about changing out my existing 4" foam mattress (which is split into two parts) in my V berth too memory foam. Now here is my question...would it be better to put a 1 1/2" on top of the new foam or stay with just the 4". I do plan on having custom fitted sheets made for it. Would a protective cover be required ? How well does it hold up in the high humid enviorments of our boats.

Re: memory foam

always found memory foam very hot to sleep on so depending on your location and temperatures could be an issue.

Re: memory foam

Sleeping on memory foam is very personal preference.
I just can not sleep on this, as I feel restricted in movements.
My dearest love it.
So at home we have split mattresses on our bed, my side without memory foam top, her side with 50 milimeters of memory foam top and we are both happy.
Neither of us can sleep on thick memory foam. We spent several days in very renowned hotel with so equipped bed and we both were sleepless. For us it was experience of BDSM kind rather...

Neither of us have memory foam on our boat berths - it is just too hot for us to sleep comfortably in warm climate

Cheers,

Tomasz

Re: memory foam

We had very good results adding 2 inch memory foam over the existing 4 inch foam. Quite comfortable and held up well. We made new covers for the cushions. It is a great solution, low cost, and looks good.

Re: memory foam

After much research, we ended up adding a cool gel memory foam mattress topper over the existing 4" mattress. Memory foam on its own wasn't supportive enough. Memory foam beds are also made with various kinds of foam layers and even the 4" memory foam toppers were actually 2" memory foam with 2" stiffer foam.

Re: memory foam

I prefer latex over memory foam. It has holes to breath, is mildew resistant and doesn't make me feel like I'm stuck in a mold.

I like to put a 2" latex "topper" on top of 2"-4" of regular foam. You have to experiment a bit to find the right firmness.

I've had good luck with this place.
