Unfortunately there isn't a standard answer globally.
Depends on the country, the marina or boatyard and what you're
shipping. I've had
parts shipped to
marinas, hotels or just shipped (ocean and air-freighted) to my name to a city and picked them up at the
customs office.
Had an
engine shipped sea freight to St Thomas USVI addressed to me. Took the docs from the shipper in FL to the local
customs office, cleared the cargo and came back in a truck to pick it up at the customs warehouse. Had a
pump impeller (my shop gave me the wrong box in my spares) shipped
Delta Dash (a small package service) addressed to my name, Montego Bay
Jamaica and also picked it up from the customs office.
Some
marinas will allow you to send packages to your name to their address, others strictly forbid it. One island the local grocery acted as a
shipping depot and cruisers had mail and small packages shipped to the store. Got the store a lot of extra business.
