Mail deliverys while cruising

Were do most people have parts/items sent to while actively cruising? Perhaps some examples
( mariners- do you have to be stayin at the mariner to receive a shipment?)

Unfortunately there isn't a standard answer globally.

Depends on the country, the marina or boatyard and what you're shipping. I've had parts shipped to marinas, hotels or just shipped (ocean and air-freighted) to my name to a city and picked them up at the customs office.

Had an engine shipped sea freight to St Thomas USVI addressed to me. Took the docs from the shipper in FL to the local customs office, cleared the cargo and came back in a truck to pick it up at the customs warehouse. Had a pump impeller (my shop gave me the wrong box in my spares) shipped Delta Dash (a small package service) addressed to my name, Montego Bay Jamaica and also picked it up from the customs office.

Some marinas will allow you to send packages to your name to their address, others strictly forbid it. One island the local grocery acted as a shipping depot and cruisers had mail and small packages shipped to the store. Got the store a lot of extra business.

We have a relationship with our local UPS store. Everything goes to them and then they send to wherever we are. Dozens of shipments over 10 years to 15 countries.

Poste Restante has worked everywhere we've been. You do have to have the sender label it "PLEASE HOLD FOR YACHT IN TRANSIT", and take your passport. You will not be able to pick up mail for your partner unless you're married, although it might work if you brought their passport, I never tried that.

Re: Mail deliverys while cruising

We were very happy with the service of St Brendans Isle. They send you an email of the front of every piece of mail you receive, then you tell them to do one or more of several options. Throw it away, open and scan the contents, mail it to whatever address you tell them each month. They will keep mail longer, but they will charge you to store it.
