Dining/drinking out costs - $992/mo average (because I can)

So even if never going to a marina or eating/drinking out there is a long way to go to get down to some people's low $$$$.

Do you know what it is?????? It's boat and body upkeep!
I know why it costs you so much its your boat its to big

My boat maintenance is way and I mean way below yours ( and yes I do count my labor )
29ft has less than 1/3 the cost to maintain the same as a 41 does. Nothing specific just a fact of driving a Nissan vs a Lincoln continental.

only 1 other member here posting monthly cruising costs. They are on a Bristol 29.9 and spending just as much on their boat (that had refit PRIOR to leaving) as I am

you need to get a new spin line

I think the extra boat costs due my boat size is peanuts

but then spend no one post any real numbers there isn't anything to debate other than rumor

how many gallons to paint your bottom ?

A new main sail for me is about 1200 from fx
Likely about 4k for your boat .
I'm not knocking you but my 29 is a lot cheaper to maintain.

The facts are most of the people posting on this thread are not actually out here doing this .
Myself I don't actually track my spending . I get approx 750 a month from investments and that's what I have so I make it work . I Try to put 100 into the oh **** fund each month . Usually I do but there are times I want that steak instead.

How about 2 weeks on big bend part of gulf. Never touched shore in 2 weeks. total cost of that trip was $3 for a gal. of gas. wind wouldn't let solar thrusters move boat. Can you say that you lived and cruised on boat for 2 weeks For $3?

but how much did it cost at the end of that 2 weeks to replenish everything you used on that 2 week vacation??
You have to think about that .

If you don't count that I have actually done 3 weeks without spending a penny.
Its called a passage

I don't count food and water so $3 was it. I see that you did 3 weeks like that great. Many others can probably say same. It is what makes this fun. You used wind . I used solar. great job

except you need to count food into the overall budget .
Now water is not counted my watermaker was pre line cut .

Now on my passage to Hawaii I ate about 50 bucks worth of shipboard food and enjoyed the tuna I had caught on my trip down the coast before my jump off

Well ok ---- kinda----- Let me explain kinda-----

When I'm home I eat, drink water and coffee and a glass of wine evenings.so does wife , and 2 daughters.
When I'm on boat same thing except some times kids or on board and some times not. Do I call their eating an drinking as a boat cost. One daughter likes to have sundowners and invites every one see sees or knows. That can get expensive and has nothing to do with my cruising . I have read about some cruisers that have sundowners every night at a marina. That should not be a cruising cost.
I grew up on beans and biscuits. Still a favorite meal. How does that compare to cruiser that wants to eat at marina every night on steak and lobster.
Food and drink are living expense ( life style ) not a boating expense.

$3 boat cost what ever it takes for living expense.

That's a really good point!

You have to eat (and drink) whether you are on the boat or not.

I'm sure though someone will probably point of that certain items costs lots more in certain places.........which many prepare for.

Re: Low Cost Cruising Details

You are mixing up "boating expenses" with "cruising expenses". In general people are talking about the cost to live and cruise full time onboard their boat.

So every life and boat expense needs to be part of that to get a fair understanding of what it actually costs (not to go on individual trips, but to live and cruise full time onboard).

This is exactly what sailorboy1 complains about, people deciding arbitrarily not to include certain costs.

If you spent money on something during the month it's an expense, it's really as simple as that.

I guess one of us is reading this title wrong." Low cost cruising Details." Cruising can be short or long -- Time or distance. It does not say living expenses. My living expenses with wife and 4 daughters is of no interest to some one trying to figure out what it might cost him to stay on a boat for a month in Bahamas.
As to what food cost in some other locality? I don't know --and have not posted such. What food costs here is not of importance. I may raise food in my garden and butcher one of my neighbors hogs. Makes no difference. Food costs are life style, your cost may vary.
Sorry did not see full time live aboard on this either
Does anyone need to know what my burial insurance that I bought in 2004 cost?
