Looking For New Liveaboards

Hi there,
I am writing an article for a national sailing magazine and I need the voice and perspective of a relatively new liveaboard. Not currently cruising, just at the dock.
I have plenty of old timers (including myself!) and need some fresh liveaboard meat.
If you are willing to do a brief interview either by email or phone PM me and we can set something up. I need to do this in the next 5-7 days or so.

'not to interrupt your search for "new liveaboard meat", but just curious.... What designates an "oldtimer" nowdays? Thanks, Aythya crew

Good question -- I would say past 5 years aboard would be an old timer. Ideally somebody who has only been aboard 1-2 years.

It's lovely to be aboard when you are out cruising and living the life of adventure (even with all of the hardships it takes to cruise)...

...it takes a whole different level of Zen to stay at the dock with all of the hassels of boat life while mainstream landlubber life is all around you and your friends are either out cruising or in a big comfortble house.

Most of us are not tied to the dock for lack of being an exciting bunch, most of us have either gone cruising once and are planning to go again or are planning to go for the first time and saving/ planning/ working on that goal all the while. Very few people I know have the financial resources to just jump aboard and take off.

And even if they are not planning to cruise (this applies to many of my marina neighbors) they are a wonderful, motley, nature loving, off beat group of people who choose to make their life afloat. It's the best neighborhood I could ever hope for!

Have to say, been living aboard for bout 16 months now, at the dock. No, not planning to make a career of staying at the dock. The plan is 2 yrs for a major refit, and 2 yrs updating equipment. While the boat isnt that bad, having learned something over 20 yrs as a fireman, you plan for the worst, and the minor things dont bother u. So on track, and yes, naysayers be damned, I will be in the islands soon enought.

Ah,finally free of the dock and livin on the hook.Got my prop repitched,now a 14x6 Campbell sailer,much better,only lost .5kn.,and now getting my full rpm's.My new Alfa with directional antenna is working great up to a couple of miles.Next month will be one year aboard.Two months to get ready for the southbound trek.

Thank you everyone for your responses and getting in touch with me. I finished th article (yay) and it's in the hands of the editors now. I am told possible September for print, but it's never set in stone. I will come back and post details once it's all said and done.
