Looking for input from the experienced

Good day all. Well it looks like our plans are shaping up to be in the live-aboard mode either late fall of 2016 or very early 2017. We are looking to acquire a used cat. Looking at the 36ft to 40ft range. Under consideration is the FP 36, and Lipari 41 as well as the Lagoon, 380 and 400 and possibility Leopard 38ft to 40ft. So any feedback on these models would be appreciated.

Again the plan is to most likely move home base to Florida and we would be looking to find live-aboard marina’s from Pensacola all the way down the western side of Florida. Looking to use as home base for 6 months to a year while we sail and get comfortable before just taking off. So looking for an affordable location, with water, electric, pump-out and wireless would be great. Again it will be a Cat, so need the extra width, probably 22ft-24ft width.

Along with this I stated we plan to purchase a used Cat in summer of 2016. So in looking out there the one thing I see is that many of the “charter cats” are 220 volts versus the USA – 110. So how much of a problem would this be if we purchased a 220 volt system? What is voltage used in the Caribbean, do they service both 110v and 220v?

Looking for any other suggestions, thoughts etc that the live-aboard experienced folks would like to share.

Re: Looking for input from the experienced

I can't speak to life on a cat but we cruised our boat from Texas on through to Key West. We stayed at many marinas along the way from the panhandle of Florida though here. I listed our experiences and the prices on our blog together with lots of pictures and video if you are interested. www.misslonestar.net
