Long term berthing in Jacare', Brazil .

We are planning on leaving our boat in Jacare' , Brazil at the end of this season and wondered if anyone who has visited this area could recommend one of the marinas .

Why Cabedelo? Was it recommended?
If Brian is still there he would look after your boat but up the River I am not sure if there is any other reliable place.
Have you checked the marinas in Salvador?

or Noonsite

Hello Allan,

Where are you right now? Out of there in the Northeast area Salvador is the must favorable with lot of marinas.

Carlos

It been a few years, but lovely spot. Phillipe has apparently been bought out , but by the sounds of it it's still an OK place to leave your boat for a while. No "marinas" there really, Phillipes is a couple of pontoons on the river , Brain has one maybe?

First of all , many thanks for your replies .

Our boat is currently berthed in Marina do Engenho which is a great marina in Paraty , Baia da Ilha Grande . While cruising last year Cabadelo was recommended by many local cruisers but as we have discovered there are a number of options regarding marinas in the river .

We would like to get as far north this season as possible as our two year boat permit expires April 2016 .

One thing I did hear second hand, maybe occasional cruisers might have managed to leave boats there beyond the 2 year limit, but a computer link seems to make that much more unlikely. Sounds like its by the book now in Cabadelo.

Hi conachair , we cruised Brazil last year for the mandatory (3+3) 6 month visa and found the Brazilian authorities pretty well organized and with their high tax structures l would not recommend taking a chance . Apparently they have tightened up considerably recently .

I wouldn't recommend anyone taking a chance either, apparently now the Cabadello office is computerised online with the rest of the bureaucracy as well. When I checked out of there a while ago somehow the boat had overstayed past the paperwork, nice man in the office looked stern and said... This is a big fine ... then smiled and stamped... you must go quickly to catch up, your boat left 6 days ago..
