Re: Living on a Sail Boat in New Orleans area?

Alright. Know I have thick skin and want to learn from everyone I meet. I have spent a lot of time at the old fishing camp and ran into all kinds of people. Usually the ones roughest around the edges had the best advice. You just had to grit your teeth and not take the delivery personally and take what knowledge you get.

I don't live on a boat currently, but I do live without air conditioning in Texas which is only a little less humid than Louisiana, as I don't want to pay the bills that come with it.

I did live on a boat in the Caribbean without air conditioning for a year, I didn't die. Its quite possible once you acclimate, its also cheaper.

Some one else some where else on this site had techniques for keeping clothes fresh and neat on a sailboat, she worked in sales and needs nice suits to work in as well.

Enjoy your new life.

Cheaper? ..... maybe not. Some marinas have metered electricity, but a flat rate is common. We most often pay a fee for a 30 amp connection without metering. It is also common to hear of people doing well in the Caribbean, Bahamas or many other places anchored out where your vessel sits facing into the wind. That's far different from tucked into a slip without the air wafting into your forward hatch. Also, check the weather data. The average daytime summer temperature is about 10*F higher in Louisianna than in the Caribbean!

..... but back to tbodine88's message. It is quite possible to acclimate!

Captain H, I have a 34 footer in Mandeville; you might want to take a look at her.
