All to often folks will rent a slip sight unseen and someone will tow the boat in after hours. High rent marinas aren't wild about tenants that don't keep their boats in good condition.
The Harbour master here acts rough but is pretty softhearted sometimes. He let a young man come in with a 24 ft
sloop to
live aboard short time. Towed in after hours,
mast down,
cockpit looking like the floor of an 18 yr olds bachelor pad.
Cabin was worse.
2 months later he heads out for
parts unknown and leaves the boat. Leaves it for the marina to deal with.
I rebuilt the
rudder and tiller. Got the 40 yr old 6 horse running. Stepped the
mast (with help before the kid left). Hung the boom. Repaired the
mainsail and the
sail cover.
I did enough
work on it the asst harbor master thought I had slipped a
new boat in without telling anyone.
The marina might get 1k for the boat.
That's one of the reasons it's hard to get a LOB slip on the
phone.
