Liveaboard annoyances

The Admiral and I were chatting last night about how much we love living on our boat. We are finishing our first summer in Grenada and getting ready to head North to the USVI. This is our third year liveaboard / cruising full-time. Our only on-land possession is a RAV4 on St. John.

But, what about the annoyances? Here is what we came up with.

1. Unreliable Internet
2. Power usage is higher than solar charging capacity
3. Hot days on board
4. Freezer icing up
5. Clutter
6. Laundry
7. Rolly anchorages

Sure, there are solutions. But, these are the problems we are going to work on.

Cheers, RickG

Mine is from living aboard in a marina in San Francisco for 5 years.

Halyard slap. What's up with sailors and not securing their halyard?

Running out of beer in the anchorage half blasted, and needing to dinghy in to get more. Ending up at a favorite bar and getting fully blasted. Falling into the water trying to get into dinghy to get back to boat. No ladder to climb back onto dock.

Re: Liveaboard annoyances

That isn't an annoyance. That's living a sad life.

Re: Liveaboard annoyances

How about a problem and a solution. Mexico is a loud country and we love the energy. Sometimes they party loudly till dawn. After a career that often required hearing protection we got familiar with a wide range of earplugs. The ones in the drugstores or hardware stores are often hard and uncomfortable we found the best ones at industrial safety supply companies. Our favorite is Laser Lite uncorded. We buy a 100 pair box and the magic of a good night's sleep or quiet off watch rest is at hand...er at ear.

Re: Liveaboard annoyances

I really have a hard time, especially with Covid, with attractive young women doing exercise topples on deck. Every morning they are out there. Nothing I can do about it. Wearing out my 12x50’s.

Other than that, the list above is pretty complete. BUT, compare to the never ending repair list of a house on land. We share a Northern Michigan home with our daughter. I spent the last six months working MAO. Looking forward to relaxing at anchor (with the glasses)
