Re: Live aboard in Singapore

I dont know about sail boat but saw many in Marina , I had see some of the post say that you can't sail in Singapore water . I not confirm just remember saw something like this in some of the post when I research on staying onboard .

Due to my intention is just stay in Singapore waters and the most I travel to batam or maybe one day to Tioman . So power boat should be more suitable .

was wondering, for sail boats, what's the requirement for sailing one in Singapore?

other than the need of learning how to sail a sail boat, is PPCDL sufficient?
PPCDL is all that is required to sail in Singapore water and be a Singapore registered vessel , if not Singapore register then you do not need PPCDL however you will need a special local port clearance each time you depart from the marina

i see! so there isn't other required permits to own a sailing vessel other than PPCDL.

was still considering between power and sail. both has its advantages and disadvantages from what i read.

at least now, sailing vessels can be considered as well.
thanks for the info bros.

Chanced upon this topic!

Anyone here currently living on board in SG?

Cheapest marina seems to be Punggol Marina? There was a very good deal for a 30ft sailboat in the early part of this year. Too bad I only saw the ad last week and its probably sold!

If the sailboat has no engine (which is very unlikely for a keelboat), PPCDL is not required.

I doubt there is any license required to sail a keelboat, but I guess its more challenging than driving a powerboat. I've only sailed a laser pico (I have a PPCDL and lvl 1 dinghy cert). Planned to take up a keelboat course 5 years ago but this never materialised.

Re: Live aboard in Singapore

While it's true that foreign registered vessel captains don't need a PPCDL, they do need to have "current" status on the MPA online self assessment test

It's a test of local knowledge which needs to re taken every 6 months.

Unless you have that status you can't get permission to navigate Singapore waters (unless you are leaving for the open ocean and exiting Singapore waters)

afaik Singapore has almost no liveaboards and the ones that are living aboard, are usually foreigners. If you do chance upon some liveaboards, do tell, would love to know if liveaboarding is feasible for us in Singapore.

Hey Robin Yeo.
Not your question I know, but if you buy a power boat with sterndrive motors, marina costs will be the least of your expenses.
Maybe you already know why.

Live aboard in Singapore

I lived aboard at One15 for two years on a 53' powerboat. Still have many friends living there. Was fantastic. Forget RSYC your boat will roll like crazy from all the passing workboats.
