Does anyone know if it's possible to claim back Australian VAT on boat items purchased in Australia if one is "In Transit" ????

Re: Lionheart

I believe you can.

Apparently you need to present receipts to Customs when leaving the country.

Yes, it's possible.

Re: Lionheart

Last time we did this there were some caveats:

Only transactions within the last 30 days.
More than 300 AUD on the invoice (can be multiple items)
Invoice is original, not copy (though how one can tell this is unclear).

sometimes worthwhile!

Re: Lionheart

Thanks folks, the last 30 days is not much help as one tends to get all the maintenance done straight away, then wait for a window. Mmmm.

They increased the 30 days to 60 days a year or so back.

Long time ( 15 years ) since I last did it on a yacht leaving Oz but I use TRS all the time when flying out to the boat.

Two corrections.

1. As Ping pointed out, it's now 60 days.

2. Its not only 300 AUD on a single invoice. You can group multiple invoices from different Whitworths branches for example if they total 300 or more..

https://www.homeaffairs.gov.au/trav/...u-a-traveller#

"your purchases are from a single business with the same Australian business number (ABN) and total AUD 300 (GST inclusive) or more. For example, if you bought items from one business, even on separate invoices, that together total AUD 300, these items could be eligible for a tax refund under the TRS"
