Having irreparably mangled my stern rail-mounted
cradle for a large and heavy RFD
liferaft, I thought I'd be able to easily find a quality strong replacement. Alas, it seems no companies produce them that I can find online. I ordered what looked and sounded like an adequate replacement only for it to arrive and turn out to be a Chinese-made thin tubular construction which would probably either separate at the welds or at the flimsy lug screws supplied to hold the adjustable arms in place - that's of course if the supposed 316
stainless steel (laughable) doesn't rust out and disintegrate in the first week. My original launcher was constructed out of heavy-duty stainless of a similar strength and quality to stanchions. Are any forum members aware of a manufacturer who builds this sort of quality? At the moment I have returned the RFD to the foredeck but weighing in at a possible 40kg and having shrouds in the way, the best place for it is hanging off the stern where it originally was.
