Key West Liveaboards

I would like to start a group of liveaboards in Key West that plan sailing to Cuba.

How about starting the Cuba Sail with the Wrecker's Race, just keep on going ?

What is the current official government position concerning cruising in Cuba? I would love to go but I would also like to be able to come back to the US without the prospect of losing my boat or going to jail.

Visits to Cuba are only allowed for U.S. citizens who have relatives there, or who are on some sort of educational, medical, or relief mission specifically approved by the State Department. In either case, you must get permission from the State Department prior to going.

That's if you want to be legal. Of course, there are people who don't mind breaking the rules and if you are smart about it the chances of getting caught are negligibly small.

I had always understood that it was OK to go to Cuba, but not OK to spend any money while there....?
