Key West?

I am worried about all those boats the workers live on, the holding there sucks. Hope they could camp out at the US Coast Guard station or on some other USA land.

Re: Key West?

The storn went right between Key West and Marathon. Marathon was in the bad quarter but Key West does not handle that wind direction either. It will have blown everyone onto land.

Re: Key West?

Just from a casual observation of being there a couple of times, It didn't look like many had decent ground tackle as it seemed most had nylon rode, and I'd hazard a guess that most boats were living places for non sailor types.
I just hope none got hurt

Re: Key West?

Ive got a good mate at marathon, had contact with him but obviously none now. His boat was tired up comprehensively in one of the canals while he and family took refuge in the school.
Doses anyone know how big the tidal surge was in marathon?'im concerned he may of lost his boat.

Looks like the anchored or moored boats didn't do to well, where the boats in the marinas faired better.

Re: Key West?

I see about 40 boats on the rocks and about that many dinghy's at the docks so maybe they got off their boats.

A good number of the people in the city mooring field have regular jobs too. If you have a boat it's an inexpensive place to live in Key West. Looks like 20 or so lost it.
There are a bunch of new private moorings in Key West, the anchorage is shrinking because the holding sucks. West marine even sells a mooring anchor.
