Jumping ship in French Polynesia
Does anybody know what the immigration rules are for arriving by yacht into French Polynesia and then leaving the yacht to fly out of the country
Is there anything special required, like a letter from the skipper to say the person has left the yacht?

Re: Jumping ship in French Polynesia
The skipper and the crew will have to visit the officials together to have the crew formally removed from the vessel's crew list. Otherwise when the vessel goes to leave FP and the crew is absent there will be problems. To do this the crew will need to present their onward travel documents.
That's more about problems down the road for the skipper/vessel, if you're the crew it's not a big deal, you could just show up at the airport with your ticket and your passport, but you'd be leaving the skipper in the lurch.

Re: Jumping ship in French Polynesia
The answer given is correct. Was in French Polynesia, checked into Hiva Oa. All crew list are documented. Captain most likely will have to assist you if you depart. With out his help you will have to buy a round trip ticket to return. They want to be sure you have the financial means to leave the country. It can be complicated but a good captain will know the ropes.

Re: Jumping ship in French Polynesia
It may depend on the nationality of the crew....
I arrived in Tahiti with EU crew... sailed without them.... no drama for them.. no drama for me..

Atoll, Thanks for my AM smile and laugh.
"What happened to Joe?" "He's at the BBQ." "No... Joe is the BBQ."

Atoll, is that because of antibiotics? Smile. I am sure you would agree that men with loose zippers still have to worry about STD. Herman Melville’s book Typee one of my treasured sailing books.
