It won't be normal untill it's strange.

Retired JAN 15. Since then we have been emptying the house, making it ready to rent out, fixing all those little "round 2its" that never got done. Took all our canned food to the boat yesterday, eating outta the fridge now, sitting on the bed as the chairs are gone. We will be on the boat by the weekend but still have a punch list to work through so we will reverse commute for a couple of weeks.

It's been an odd and stressful time. The apartment has not felt like home in a long time anyway, now it's just weird and depressing. Kinda like watching an old cantankerous uncle slowly pass away, fighting the inevitable.

Then our new life will begin. In that new life we will have new experiences, new adventures, new friends. Wondering where we are when we wake up. It will all be new, strange. But that will be our new normal. We will adapt and living a nomads life will become routine, normal.

Thus it won't be normal until it's strange.

I hope you mean Jan 16. Otherwise, I can understand you being depressed !

Don't worry, it gets better. It happened pretty fast in my experience.
Look forward to your new adventures.

I thought I understood this for a moment and that did seem strange. Somehow, I have visions of Jimmy Durante putting on and removing his hat and singing should I stay or should I go. Maybe that's normal. We are living aboard and cruising,- 'seems normal,- 'must be strange!

I enjoy your thoughts!

25 for me. And that's if they don't change the age.

Still, nice post by the OP. I liked it. Kinda poetic in a subtle way.

CONGRATULATIONS! Spring of 2019 for us. Then off we sail into the sunset (and sunrise and sunset...) Let us know where you go and how you do. I bet that you will have a blast. It won't take long for you to remember what relaxing is like. Fair winds and following seas.

Thanks guys. Looks like tonight will be our last night sleeping here. Then Friday night -on the boat for good. Brings new meaning to the phrase "Big Gulp" (for all the 7/11 fans)

Re: It won't be normal untill it's strange.

Congratulations Hpeer. I am so happy for you, and can relate to your feelings as we are just a little bit behind you but we are emptying out our house and getting it ready for sale and are hoping to retire this year also. You are correct, despite how exciting and wonderful it is, there are still many mixed and stressful feelings.

Hope to run into you out there in a nice anchorage somewhere.

Re: It won't be normal untill it's strange.

Congrats!

Life is all about changes, much as at certain stages we will make every effort to create illusions of permanency.

Hoist the sails, grab the helm and go (South, I guess?). LIFE IS GOOD. Let it flow.

Cheers,
b.
