Re: IS THERE A REASON FOR THIS?
These fish are a good idea for boats left for months at a dock if there’s a chance their regular zincs could be eaten away entirely. You don’t need a fish if you keep an eye on your zincs and change them - for many boats about 3 times a year - although some boats go for over a year.
You would need to get a wire cable and attach it a way that an electrical current can move from the wire to the fish. The fish should be put a foot or two in the water. The wire should then be attached to a piece of metal on the boat that is grounded in the boat. A backstay works in many situations. After connecting it use a multimeter to test that the fish is electrically connected to the boat ground.
The fish should be pulled out before leaving the dock.

Italian isn't a race, it's a nationality.

Is Italian a "race"?
It's only offensive if it's about people with some other characteristic than your own.
So, it's not offensive for me to make as many jokes as I want about grumpy old heterosexual, white men with anglo-saxon, protestant antecedents.
(But them, it's apparently not offensive for anyone to make jokes about that particular segment of society )

Re: IS THERE A REASON FOR THIS?
Italia is fantastic.
Italia gave us Nero d'Avola, and those who do not know better should get lashed and dragged below the keel.
Columbus was Italian.
And an Italian boat is about to challenge for the AC.
My dear Italian friend: please DISREGARD ignorant people who simply lack education, taste and experience. Please be assured there are also CF members who love Italy!
This is a social media forum and you will find all kinds of people (which in many ways is why it is worth being here as long as respect for everyone is granted).

The cable is cast into the block. They are often the first to go. You can try to screw a SS cable & screws. The other end is spring clips. I tossed mine in the zinc recycling at the marina.
Please no German, Jewish, English jokes. I’m likely to fly into blind rage.

Re: Is There A Reason For This?
Sailboats are often times under zinced. These fish are great way to protect your expensive bits and bobs within the boat. I installed a threaded brass rod through the deck and clip my zinc fish to it while at anchor or at the dock. Just have to remember to retrieve it from the water before moving the boat. The brass, or copper, studs have better conductivity than stainless.

What does "underzinced" mean?
Does it also mean not replaced often enough?
How does "...a threaded brass rod through the deck..." help protect the metal parts of the boat? (to which it appears it is not connected)

Re: Is There A Reason For This?
Dear Zengirl,
We have one on our boat, it's a sacrificial anode. Ours is on a metal cable and deployed over the side when we are in a marina.
All I will say is don't leave the marina with it still dragging in the water like us!
Best regards,
John.

Re: Is There A Reason For This?
I am Irish and often, in England, I hear "Irish jokes" I love them and repeat them. Sometimes if I hear a great "Black joke" or "Jewish joke" or "Scottish joke" I will turn them into "Irish jokes" so I am talking about myself. No one can complain.....but some do and I just tell them to shove it where the sun dont shine (thats a Texas joke). There are way to many people that think they have to take the cares of the world on their own backs. To them I say, get a life, and smile a bit more so you dont have such a sour disposition. Next time I see you I will knock that chip off your shoulder and you will feel better.
