Internet Accessability in the Bahamas

How difficult is it to access the internet living aboard in the Bahamas and Caribe. I am a writer, and need more than just email type access?

You will need a good satellite provider. I would go with someone like Inmarsat which deals in maritime communication:

Internet access is scattered all across the Bahamas and Caribbean, but varies widely in terms of availability, speed and price.

Lots of locations offer WiFi for free if you buy a drink/food, etc. Some of these locations will also let you plug in to power, some won't. Having adapters to convert between various plug types (French, English, American) is very helpful too.

There is a provider in the E. Caribbean that offers WiFi on a daily, weekly, monthly or seasonal basis in some of the more popular anchorages, but they aren't everywhere.

CF has a few good threads on what type of device to install on the boat.

You can do it, but you might find that you miss seeing some of the more isolated spots that you avoid since they don't have WiFi/Internet.

Fair Winds,
Mike
