In with the old, out with the new.

I have a dilemma: I like the Jeanneau 42 DS more than I should... I do want to sail across a good number of Oceans as a liveaboard, and understand the importance of heavy displacement vessels to that end... but the ones I can afford are old, and the refits painful. While "new construction" is a question, on the whole, there's little to fix and to force refit. Where does a Jeanneau fit on the displacement scale, and can they really handle blue water?

A friend of mine just bought a 43 DS and plans to cross oceans.

My guess is that he's done his homework. I'm looking for information.

Here's (the negatives) that I've read:

"Great for cruisers/ the dual steering wheels are not protected, and are in a bad location for liveaboards".

"A slammy kind of motion in a blow".

"The windows have started to leak".

"Interiors don't have handholds, making it difficult to get around during rough weather - that's when having a huge open interior becomes a liability".

Positives:
"Finally, a master salon I can stand up in, and that my wife genuinely loves".

"Yay , the days of dark cave interiors is finally going away".

"Good price, seaworthy, proud to have it at the dock, or out at sea".
