Even a bad storm, with 100mph winds is better than vegetating at that old job. If life doesn't have hurdles, why bother?

BTW, Still haven't touched the "this is what I'll live on" money, and it's been almost a year. Since Social Security kicked in I have lived on that alone. All my savings are for maintenance and yearly bills (Insurance etc.). And I have NOT been living cheap. I have bought all my scuba gear (everything but a tank), a surfboard, golf clubs. Gone out to dinner more than not, and been in marinas all but maybe 10 nights. The boat paint job was paid for by selling my car, which I didn't need and was a hassle to own.

Sandy looked pretty bad from the tv reports we've had this side of the pond. I hope you came through it without too many problems. Pleas post so we know how you are

To put your mind at rest before your friend answers... I sat out Sandy a 100 miles from Savannah, in Charleston, and I reckon that these two towns were less affected by Sandy than anywhere else on the east coast. No more than a days light rain and less than 30 knots of wind.

I never saw a gust past 25mph and no rain. On Tuesday we did get higher winds, up to 30mph gusts.

I depart tomorrow for Jacksonville, going outside. Expect bright sun, 1-3' seas, and 10-15mph winds. At least that's what the weather guys are saying. A bit cold but that's OK.

My brothers showed up, we set the sails and sailed to Jacksonville. 20 hrs 15 minutes later we tied up to the dock. Fun trip, beat the crap out of us 25-30mph gusts 20mph steady, right in out of the southwest, the direction we wanted to go. Blew us out about 25 miles before we gave up and went to the motor. (A wise man knows when to quit). Go in, tired and beat, ate breakfast and went to bed. Small ceaft warnings were out all night, but when we left it just said 5-10 mph and 1-2' seas, they lied again. But we made it and we had, if not "fun", a good experience.

This was, for all of us, the first experience outside that far, that long, in that weather.
